In 2007, after 13 years in clinical and operations management roles in the public and private health care sector, Helen shifted into the workforce planning field. She has practiced operational and strategic workforce planning in the public and private health care sectors and other non-health government organisations in Queensland and Victoria. Helen is a currently workforce planner working at the Department of Health and Human Services in Victoria. The focus of her work is in developing practical workforce planning methods that promote innovation of workforce roles and models.



12:00 PM Facilitating Transformative Innovation and Change Through Workforce Planning - A Practical Approach

The Victorian Department of Health and Human Services have been researching and developing methods to support workforce planners within health organisations to do workforce planning that facilitates workforce innovation and transformative change. Workforce innovation and transformation are important, particularly when old ways of working just don’t work anymore, but this type of workforce planning can be more challenging from a change management perspective. Part of the Victorian DHHS’ approach is to draw on redesign, systems thinking, strategic foresight or futures thinking and design thinking, with the understanding of how to apply these methods into workforce planning. In this workshop, you will scope and design a workforce planning method that helps you to find opportunities to achieve innovative solutions to the challenges of growing population demands for healthcare in the future. The focus is on practical methods and the change management approaches to support their implementation.
